IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN, SASSOSPHERE! The Sixth Annual Estrofest -- Super Bowl for Women! If we can get Flann's car dug out of the snow, and Jersey has a place to park it, ESTROFEST 2010 is on!
As in previous years, following are the "Best Of" Super Bowl commentary categories -- anything anyone says over the airwaves beginning about 5 pm EST -- that fits brilliantly into these categories:
- MOCK HEROIC
- PATRIOTIC
- BLATANTLY SEXUAL
- ACCIDENTALLY SEXUAL
- OBAMA IS A SOCIALIST (This category replaces last year's YES WE CAN!)
- WHAT WOULD JESUS SAY?
- JUST PLAIN STUPID
- THAT HURTS MY FEELINGS
- A POET AMONG US (best metaphor and/or alliterative riff)
And this year's SURPRISE commentary categories:
- YOU BETCHA! (or WHAT WOULD SARAH PALIN SAY?)
- I DREAMED A DREAM (or WHAT WOULD SUSAN BOYLE SING?)
And don't for forget to submit your vote for BEST COMMERCIAL!
The sassosphere will be open throughout the pre-game, game and post-game festivities for you to send in your entries. Please be certain to specify the commentary category when you make your entry.
ALSO, SEND IN YOUR DRINK ORDERS, PLEASE! Click here for a photo of the Sassistas! getting food supplies
And the most important thing -- who are the Sassistas! rooting for? We're with Suzanne on this:
GO SAINTS! We're marching with ya!
If anyone needs further explanation of the official ESTROFEST commentary categories, here's a link to last year's ESTOFEST announcement:

Ah the long awaited ESTROFEST... We love this day. What better way to experience a snowstorm. We spend it with friends; eating, drinking, and having just plain fun! Oh and of course, we hand out prizes.
Go Saints!

Interesting! I would've thought those living close to Baltimore would have naturally been supporting the Colts. I've decided to support the 'Aints as well - the only pro football game I've ever seen in person was between the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Saints back in 1977 (I think), and I remember it because it was the very first game the Bucs won! Went as a member of the band, so it was doubly fun to be surrounded by friends and fellow band geeks watching a Florida team WIN ;-) But I'm supporting the Saints because I think NOLO needs a break after the last 4 years, and was taken aback to learn they've never made it to the Super Bowl before. Seems about time, doesn't it?
Drink orders - considering how very cold it must still be up there with all that snow, I think a vat of hot chocolate will be in order. I would have LOVED to have been part of the crowd throwing snowballs at each other - looks like fun (and did you see the people who turned the massive set of steps into a great little sled run?) :-)

Can't wait for the big game and looking forward to listening for commentary winners. I don't really care who wins the game, which bugs me more than I thought it would. I think I'll be happiest for the Saints though, and have friends who have followed them all the years they were Aints.
Staying home from church this morning with my nine year old, who is fighting a cold. Gotta admit, having him read The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde to me was a transcendent experience in itself.

Good morning, all. Here's another vote for the Saints. Sorry we won't be able to make it to Jersey's. Spent the better part of the morning shoveling MOST of the car, but we sho ain't goin nowhere soon. This street hasn't seen a plow since about 11:30 Friday night. I'd have to shovel a path clear to Rhode Island Avenue to be able to get out. DC & I will just have to join Estrofest via the 'sphere.

The best decision, treesta -- no place to park here!
I went outdoors to help shovel out the car that was completely covered in snow yesterday. Remember I put it in a video? I saw the poor woman digging out and just had to help her. That was 2 hours and 35 minutes ago. I'm just back inside.
We will be blogging live through the whole game, so please send in your commentary contributions.
Sorry about your nine-year-old, babysis. I'd love for him to read me that story one day, too.

Hey, any more pics of the snow accumulation, now that y'all have some sun?
Posted by: Chrysosistah | February 07, 2010 at 02:05 PM
Chryso -- I think my identity is sufficiently disguised in this photo taken a couple of hours ago in my court parking lot. That's my neighbor, Manuela, who last night, had the German wine tasting party:

It's 5:15 pm EST and Matissta, Ingrid and me are at Jersey's.
The roads were, in a word: AWFUL. We may have to leave early as the roads that melted today will surely freeze once the sun goes down.
We're on our first beers. Go Saints!
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 05:17 PM
MOCK HEROIC:
We may have to leave early as the roads that were so awful may freeze over.
Oh wait, that wasn't on tv, I heard it elsewhere.

Okay, I deserved that, babysis.
Katie Couric just asked Drew Brees this question: "Did you save New Orleans or did New Orleans save you?"
It's a toss-up about whether or not to toss that comment into the WWJD category or the "You Betcha" category.

Just a quick news-sass: Winter storm watch for Tuesday-Wednesday (in DC metro area)with possibility of 5 or more inches. Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

JUST PLAIN STUPID:
When asked what advice he gave his players, the New Orleans coach said, "There are four quarters to this game."
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:01 PM
THE OPENING: Mock-classical
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:02 PM
In the "You Betcha" category:
Jim Nance calling everyone his "friend."
Posted by: babysis | February 07, 2010 at 06:05 PM
JUST PLAIN STUPID -- about Drew Brees:
"When he's out there, he's going to have to make some throws down the field."
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:17 PM
THAT HURTS MY EARS:
Carrie Underwood's last note of the Natl. Anthem.
Posted by: babysis | February 07, 2010 at 06:25 PM
I DREAMED A DREAM CATEGORY:
Carrie Underwood singing the national anthem looking like Elvis and missing the last note.
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:26 PM
YOU BETCHA:
The title for the movie, "The Airbender" -- also what to call a Super Bowl party where only chili with kidney beans is being served.
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:28 PM
(We're on the same note, babysis!)
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:29 PM
Funny. It's The Last Airbender though, which means the chili is poisoned.
Posted by: babysis | February 07, 2010 at 06:30 PM
BLATANTLY SEXUAL: "There's tight coverage underneath."
Posted by: Flannista | February 07, 2010 at 06:33 PM
BLATANTLY SEXUAL:
If it's gonna be one on one, they try to go deep.
Posted by: babysis | February 07, 2010 at 06:40 PM
Stupid shit: Announcer - once {Manning} throws it, those receivers catch it with their hands.
Duh. I thought they caught the ball with their teeth.

Impressive pile o' snow, Flannista!
