I could not open my front door this morning without pushing really hard -- too much snow! A snow removal truck is stuck in the snow out on the main drag near my house. It is a very heavy, wet snow. Tens of thousands have lost electricity. I still have it.
Don't abandon me!

The headline on washingtonpost.com (needless to say, there was no paper delivery this morning):
BLIZZARD CRIPPLES AREA
Posted by: Flannista | February 06, 2010 at 07:09 AM
Matissta and Jerseysista have been without electricity since 6:20 A.M. Their part of town has no power. There is still power on my end of town.

I'm experimenting. Took a movie. Wonder if you can view this:

Highly cool. Enjoy the storm. Is that a gas barbecue in the picture? Looks like ours when snow flies around here. Always fun to cook out during a snow storm. Good touch that snow removal truck is stuck.

No, noway, that's my garbage bin, if you are looking at the photos of the front of my house. I haven't yet been out back to even FIND my gas barbecue! It also snowed INTO the bird feeders -- they can't get to the seeds.
Just talked to Matissta. The power company said that it cannot estimate when power will be back on because so many have lost power. Ironically, given yesterday's post, Matissta said, "Now I'm worried that MY pipes will freeze!"
Geez Louise!

Movie is terrific. Dog has correct attitude wagging its tail. When things melt a little might be perfect skitching venue. A lost art of much fun and cheap transportation.
Posted by: nowayasista | February 06, 2010 at 09:06 AM
Hey thanks, noway. And many, many more thanks for keeping me company this morning. Just had an English muffin with peanut butter to fortify myself to do my backyard!
I'll keep wagging my tail.
What's "skitching," by the way? We'll surely need fun and cheap transportation.
Posted by: Flannista | February 06, 2010 at 09:16 AM
What is skitching? Grab the back of car bumper going by on snowy road. Take a ride. Extra points for a squad car. Really quite handy.

Just lost power. Need to conserve iPhone charge.
Pray for everyone.
Posted by: Flannista | February 06, 2010 at 09:43 AM
We're praying for you. Bundle up. Stay safe & warm as possible.
Posted by: PEACEsista | February 06, 2010 at 09:55 AM
Greatest line in the movie:
"This is snow, snow, snow ... and a shovel."
Posted by: PEACEsista | February 06, 2010 at 09:58 AM
Good heavens - thatsa lotta snow! So sorry to hear you've lost power, that's always a pain down here - but could be really dangerous up there with all that cold. Bundle up, sweeties, and stay warm! (I don't suppose any of you have a generator?)
Amazing the snow machine's stuck!
Movie's great - that last spin made me spin (but then, I'm still sick).
Prayers in action that you get power back quickly!

I was looking at the pics again - Flannista, you are to be congratulated for having such a clean sidewalk so freakin' much snowfall!! Dang...our rain never looks that impressive ;-)

Hello, sphere. Checking in from the rurals near my parents home. County library computer. Will be in Flann's airport in a few days. Wonder how it'll be by then. Interesting prospect. It's cool here, and gray. I hope that all my sistas are well. Be careful, you snowbound beloveds.

Carolyn!!! So good to see you sass in - hope the airports up there (and surrounding roads) are in good shape when you fly in. Continued travel blessings...
Posted by: Chrysosistah | February 06, 2010 at 11:22 AM
Still no power. 250,000 without it. Roads impassable. No where close has power.
Posted by: Flannista | February 06, 2010 at 01:19 PM
oh, good grief - and I was just reading on the Baltimore Sun website that they haven't opened shelters yet? How the hell are you supposed to stay home with no power or heat? That's nuts! Sure hope I'm forgetting a fireplace you have somewhere handy!!
Posted by: Chrysosistah | February 06, 2010 at 01:21 PM
The problem with opening shelters is that there is no way to get there. The neighborhood roads are completely impassable at this point, and the main roads are dangerous. If you have to walk to get there, the snow where it has not been plowed or shoveled is now thigh deep. This snow has the President's Day Blizzard of '79 beat, the 1996 snowstorm beat, the '66 Blizzard when I was a kid beat. The snow right now is close to a foot deeper than December's snowstorm. I hope Flan, Matiss & Jersey are bundling themselves up with lots of layers. Fortunately, we still have power in NE DC, though there are many folks in town without.

Wow - I agree, treesta, definitely hope everyone has backup systems in place. It's hard to absorb the weather y'all are experiencing, when outside here it's a beautiful blue sky sunny day, with a nice breeze - probably in the mid-60's. Stay warm!! (and congrats on the new grandbaby!!)

JUST GOT POWER, BUT NO IDEA FOR HOW LONG.
CHECK THE POST -- I JUST ADDED A PHOTO.
MATISSTA AND JERSEY STILL WITHOUT POWER.

Thanks, Chryso. I just came in from BEGINNING to TRY to shovel out my car. Only got the part behind my back bumper shoveled, but the resulting mound of shoveled snow is about 5 foot tall. I think DC & I are the only ones in the 'sphere in the DC area who are still with power, so I'll pop back in from time to time with weather updates. Right now it is still snowing. Thought it was going to quit about an hour ago when I went outside to shove, but it's picking back up again!
Posted by: treesta | February 06, 2010 at 03:24 PM
There is 32 inches of snow -- easily in my yard. Check out the height of the snow on my garbage bin.
treesta is on to something: there is NO PLACE TO PUT THE SNOW. I honestly don't think anything will be moving until at least Tuesday. And yes, it is STILL SNOWING. Supposed to stop sometime around 10 pm.
I have never before experienced a blizzard like this. Incredible.
