Chryso shared the above Facebook link with me yesterday. It made me laugh, for the time being. The sassosphere is undoubtedly as weary of reading about our blizzards as all of us in the mid-Atlantic region are about enduring them.
Here's the latest about the current storm (the image above was for last weekend's storm): starting late yesterday afternoon, we got about five inches of snow. Then, overnight brought a period of sleet and freezing rain. Now the entire region is changing back to snow and should stay that way through much of today with additional snow accumulations of 8 to 10 inches. All this would be trouble enough on top of the nearly 3 feet of snow over the weekend. But add increasingly strong and sustained gusty winds (between 25 and 50 mph) through tomorrow, and you have a perfect recipe for impassable streets and power failures.
Flannista still has power and will post images when she can. Last night, Chryso posted this link to time-lapse videos of the weekend storm that you may have missed. It is fascinating. In the meantime, why don't you offer some sassgestions to keep us laughing, because we are so SNOWVER IT.
And treesta was correct yesterday. Today's weather forecast indicates that we could get walloped again on Monday.
That's just SNOWVERKILL.

Believe it or not, the Washington Post was on my front doorstep this morning. Still haven't gotten any mail since Friday.
The front-page headline: SNOW STRAINING POWER LINES, PATIENCE
Posted by: Flannista | February 10, 2010 at 07:33 AM
Funny, funny weather map. The wind is starting to kick up over here. I'm debating what to do today - should I shovel snow? - or maybe I should just shovel snow. I'm looking out the window at a car that was never touched after the last storm, and wondering what it'll look like after another foot or so. We did get mail yesterday. And we're fully stocked, phones and 'puters charged, flashlights and batteries at the ready.

You have had your quota of snow. Vancouver is jealous. Had to chuckle about the paper. Took me back to paper route days and boys trudged through drifts to get about 100 papers out before 6 AM. I threw the route on one bad day, someone called to complain that the "paperboy" had walked across their yard and put footprints in the fresh snow.
Very impressed by shovel job. First class. When storms hit around here, most important thing I know is to get outside enough. Staying cooped up is awful for the psyche.

Wish you lived closer, noway, as your pep talks are very, very helpful. I'm not kidding.
I am a first-class snow shoveler -- that's what my neighbors and a couple of strangers have told me. Give me a shovel and I just gotta dig.
I saw a Coop maintenance person walking to work when I was out earlier and shouted out a big thank you.
I still have power. So does Matissta. Thanks again for keeping us company.

treesta -- shovel snow or shovel snow? Let me think . . . rather than either of those, I think you ought to shovel snow. Me, on the other hand, I want to be different. Instead of shoveling snow, I'm going to shovel snow. Or perhaps I'll shovel snow. I can't make up my mind.

Ok, I guess I'll shovel snow. Then I'll come back in a look at pictures of my sweet granddaughter Julia, and ponder the wonders of new life. Her expressions are great. One of my favorites is Steve reading to her. He is already reading to her on a daily basis. He's mixing in some Thoreau with The Stinky Cheese Man and Green Eggs and Ham. I've taught my boy well.

Already walked Huck. We were the only ones on the street, besides a plow truck.
noway, I should have called you last night for the pep talk. I called my mother, who is currently visiting my brother in Phoenix. Lucky her. She's not very good at pep talks.
I'm definitely getting major cabin fever. It's a bad sign when you wake up and don't know what day it is. Plus waking to Maker's Mark on the kitchen counter. My new best friend.
Posted by: Matissta | February 10, 2010 at 08:22 AM
I did my first pass on the front walk way. I still have to do the back one. I was again the only one who has even ventured out in my court for snow removal.
I'm bracing for the power to go out. It's official. We're now under blizzard warnings.
Posted by: Matissta | February 10, 2010 at 08:25 AM
The front walkway I just shoveled is now covered with snow that just came crashing down off my roof. If my neighbors weren't awake already, Huck sounded the alarm for everyone.
He has cabin fever too!
Forget the OJ, where's that Maker's Mark?
Posted by: Matissta | February 10, 2010 at 08:30 AM
As if on cue, it's now white-out conditions as I sit here looking out our window. Obviously, I haven't gone out to shovel yet.

The latest headline on washingtonpost.com:
BLIZZARD WARNING EXTENDED ACROSS REGION
"Area's three major airports cancel all flights and postal service suspends delivery as National Weather Service extends alert until 7 p.m."
Matissta -- Maker's Mark can be your best friend, but just so you know, Maker and I have been sleeping together since Friday. There. I said it.

Can totally appreciate the burn-out factor, but glad you enjoyed the funny from Facebook. Definitely agree with nowayasista, I actually think you surely have exceeded your quota and need to shuffle down the buffet line, thanks. Vancouver's dying for snow, apparently.
Seriously, please stay safe & warm!

My son's comment this morning:
Apparently my child is the reincarnation of the Snow Queen, Noreeasta. One week old and three snow events.

They just showed DC on the Regis & Kelly show - had some poor girl doing a stand-up near the Capitol, it should have been easily seen right over her shoulder, but truly, white-out conditions, couldn't see a darned thing! Wow!

A beloved in Richmond just emailed me this photo -- it pretty much says it all:

The highway department in DC has pulled their plows from the road because of the whiteout conditions.
The National Guard is also transporting "essential personal" to their jobs.
The roads are treacherous.

Soulsista in Orlando just sent me this photo taken moments ago from TRM's office with the following message:
"Thought I would send some sunshine your way! Took this out of the small conference window this morning. I heard the bells from the Methodist church ringing and thought this picture bring you some sunshine and warm thoughts from your SISTAS in FL!! Hang in there and keep the pictures/clips coming. From a girl who’s never seen snow on the ground it is fascinating to say the least! Stay warm and know we are thinking of you!"
Here's Soulsista's photo:

We kill her now or later?
(Just kidding, Soulsista -- thanks for the warm thoughts.)

Got off the phone with Jersey who is deciding whether or not to stand underneath a tree teetering near her house and prop it up for the next 36 hours.
I told her to dress warmly. And don't forget the Maker's Mark.
Posted by: Flannista | February 10, 2010 at 09:22 AM
I told Flann that every year I think we should plan a trip to some place sunny and warm, during this time of year. Since I didn't, the picture does help. I'm going to print the photo, so that when the power goes out I can look at it using a flashlight.

On the Washington Post website:
"AT 7:27 AM THIS MORNING...A WIND GUST WAS RECORDED TO 60 MPH AT MANASSAS VIRGINIA. NUMEROUS WIND GUSTS OVER 40 MPH HAVE OBSERVED AROUND THE REGION ALONG WITH WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS."

They've pulled the snowplows off the streets in DC and Montgomery County because the conditions are so dangerous.
