Okay, we're thrilled that Christopher Plummer won for "The Beginners".

Thrilled that Kelsey Grammer won for "The Boss" on Starz -- brilliant show.
Posted by: Flannista | January 15, 2012 at 08:37 PM
I promise to think of a verb other than "thrilled".
Posted by: Flannista | January 15, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Thrilled, I mean, PLEASED, that "Homeland" won best TV series, drama or whatever.
Posted by: Flannista | January 15, 2012 at 08:40 PM
Seth Rogan just made Ricky Gervais look tame. He was beyond "thrilled".
Posted by: Matissta | January 15, 2012 at 09:08 PM
So happy to see Clare Danes win for her role in "Homeland".
Posted by: Matissta | January 15, 2012 at 09:40 PM
Um, Matiss, your last comment did not contain the word "thrilled." Don't let that happen again.
Posted by: babysis | January 15, 2012 at 10:10 PM
babysis, I wish I could say I was "thrilled" The Descendants won for best drama. I need someone to explain to me what's so wonderful about the movie.
Posted by: Matissta | January 15, 2012 at 10:58 PM
And did anyone else think Ricky Gervais was on the side of boring this year? I think he actually pulled back too much. I wasn't "thrilled".
That last one's for you, babysis.
Posted by: Matissta | January 15, 2012 at 11:02 PM
I can't believe that I fell asleep shortly after I made my last comment last evening and missed the rest of the show.
Have to say that I agree with Matissta's comments here. Ricky Gervais did indeed pull back too much. We saw "The Descendants" and didn't get what all the hype was about. Actually, I feel asleep during the movie.
Madonna won best song or something? PLU-LEEZE.

Did you know that there's an ACTUAL adjective for Seth Rogan's remark about his proximity to Kate Beckinsale?
TUMESCENT
Look it up.
Posted by: Flannista | January 16, 2012 at 06:09 AM
Good morning, Flann. I'm not feeling tumescent this morning. About halfway through the night, the heat pump started sounding like a jet plane was taking off in the backyard, and it started cutting on and off constantly. At least we still have heat. I have a call into a repairman. We'll see what happens.
Posted by: treesta | January 16, 2012 at 07:10 AM
Hey, Flann, did you happen to see this article in the Post?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/is-poetry-dead-or-in-the-age-of-the-internet-does-it-offer-us-what-nothing-else-can/2011/10/27/gIQAEghXtP_story.html

Yes, I read that article yesterday, treesta -- didn't like it very much. Seemed to float over the surface of its subject, though I ought to be happy that any article about any aspect of poetry was published at all.
Sorry about your heat pump. Matissta just got off the phone with her washing machine repair folk. She was told on Saturday that someone would be coming today to look at it. They had no record of that.
Must be something in the water -- or your heat pump.
Posted by: Flannista | January 16, 2012 at 09:05 AM
Just got a message from the repair technician, as they seem to be called now. They'll be here between 12 and 4.
I am concerned that my savings account is scratching the bottom of the barrel.
I will be grateful that:
1. I still have heat.
2. I have the resources to get it repaired.
3. I should be getting some money from income tax refunds to replenish the savings account.
I must be more careful with my spending this year.
Posted by: treesta | January 16, 2012 at 09:23 AM
treesta -- so many of us will have to be more careful about our spending this year. Not to worry . . . we'll keep each other afloat somehow, okay?
I have no idea how to segue this sass stream back to the Golden Globes.
I'll ponder it.
Matiss and I have decided to make a mad escape into the city to take in some art exhibits. When all else fails . . . contemplate art!

Thanks, Flann. Have a good time. I want to get in to see the Native American Museum sometime soon.

I take it that Dame Edna (or is it Edith?) failed to show up, so no fashion critique? I felt a bit...I don't know, sad, excluded, whatever..when watching the show and ended up distracted with other things. Most of the shows discussed last night were unfamiliar to me - too much on paid cable channels, or in the movies when we were feeling pinched.
The clothing was, in the main, fairly safe/conservative as well - so many flesh-toned dresses, and so many followed the same silhouette. I did like Anglelina Jolie's dress, esp. with the color-coordinated lipstick ;-)
Sure hope everyone's appliances get repaired ASAP. And that the Sassistas! enjoy the holiday browsing the museums!
Posted by: Chrysosistah | January 16, 2012 at 01:50 PM
I hear you, Chryso. I'm sorry to be sassless today, but I didn't see either the awards show or ANY of the shows mentioned in the sass-stream today. Can't say that I missed not seeing them, however, I DO wish that I was seeing the museums with the Sassistas!
Posted by: PEACEsista | January 16, 2012 at 03:13 PM
Our hearts just aren't into the fashion critique at the moment, dear Chryso.
So sorry. We have to be on top of our sass game, so to speak, and neither one of us is.
Thanks for understanding.

Hello all, I'm back from Bennington. I had a very intense 10 days of writers, writing and critiquing. James Wood was there (New Yorker) and Jill McCorkle. Both were wonderful. The faculty has a band called the Dog House Band. It's a pretty good band and Wood sat in to play drums.
My story about a mother and daughter who go to Indianapolis to see the daughter's father one last time as he is dying in prison was critiqued. It's got hope.
Glad I'm back. My sweet Bronco was glad to see me. (He's got some issues with men).

I loved The Descendants. For me, I think it was being able to relate to Clooney's character - more comfortable with work than family situations, just facing this overwheling craziness where he never know the right thing to do. I saw myself in him when he stayed silent when he didn't want to, tried to ignore things that were too painful, and tried to do the right thing when he was clueless about what that would be.
And I loved the scenery. Gorgeous.
Enjoyed the Golden Globes but then I always do.
Posted by: Westsista | January 16, 2012 at 06:13 PM
Had a bummer happen before the start of the Golden Globes so didn't see any of it except some of the red carpet talk. Some of those gowns were FABulous. So sorry that Edna wasn't up to making her appearance there, but the Oscars are oming.
I too like "The Descendants." It was a good story, a slice of life, no fantastic animation or tech stuff, just a good story.
Posted by: half-a-sista | January 16, 2012 at 07:44 PM
Thanks for understanding about Edna, half-a. She's out of the country, and I am out of sass for the moment.
I think I want to give "The Descendants" another try, based on what you and Westsista said. I'll need to go to an afternoon matinee, though. I can't seem to stay awake past 8:30 pm these days.
Justista -- thanks for sassing in. It always lightens my heart to see your words in the sass stream.
Posted by: Flannista | January 16, 2012 at 08:25 PM
I liked the overall premise of the film "The Descendants," but it struck me as choppy. Some great moments but it didn't seem steady throughout. It could also be that I heard so much hype before seeing the movie. I tend to be more critical of films if I see it after the major buzz is out.
I'm with Flann though, maybe I need to give it another try because West & half-a liked it so much.
