This is my favorite weekend in the football season. The Sassistas! will miss part of the first game between the Saints and 49ers because we are taking Charlissta and her husband out to dinner to celebrate Charlissta's birthday. But we'll be checking the scores!

Okay -- let's just get this out of our systems:
TEBOW: Quarterback or verb . . . or both?
DISCUSS.

This should be a fun football weekend. As far as the Giants-Packers go, the Giants have the ability to beat the Pack - it just depends on which Giants team shows up. But I'm going with the Giants this week, since they're the underdog, even if they are the Giants.

Gotta go with the Ravens, since they're the only local team in the mix, even though I'll be missing most of that game.
Posted by: treesta | January 14, 2012 at 08:05 AM
Last week, Teebow showed himself to be the real deal, person or verb, so I'm going with the Broncos.
Posted by: treesta | January 14, 2012 at 08:06 AM
And I really like Brees, so I'll go with the Saints.

SASS HIJACK!
I feel like the worst mom ever. I noticed that dear Scout had pulled out some hair beneath her chin and then noticed blood specks in the tub and bathroom sink. Combed both catties -- and yep, FLEAS!
Off to PetSmart for medication to kill the suckers and then other medication to keep them away. Am washing all the bedding, etc. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend this Saturday.
BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED SASS

Is football still going on and on like that woman singing on the prow of the Titanic?
I pick the
49ers over the Saints (I like underdogs),
the Patriots over the Broncos (anything to get Tebow off TV as soon as possible),
Ravens over whoever they're playing (allegiance to Baltimore), and
Giants over the Packers (because I really thing the Giants have the upper hand).
Tebow? What are the chances that lightning could strike his pointing fingers?

Time for Drew to Brees away and get someone else into the spotlight. 49'ers baby. 6 pick of Anchor Steam on the line. http://www.anchorbrewing.com/
Patriots will know that Tebow is both a noun and a verb when pretty boy T. Brady and his crew get Tebowed and skewered. 6 pack of Coors ( original, not that other stuff) on the line. Tall boys. http://www.coors.com/home/
The Ravens have seen their day and time for the Texans to make their stand. 6 pack of Shiner Bock up on this one. http://www.shiner.com/main.php
The Packers took it all last year and Rogers wound up with his discount double check. The Giants will come through. A 6 pack of Brooklyn Lager to celebrate the day. http://brooklynbrewery.com/

I think I want the Packers because I think they are from Wisconsin and I had a friend there who used to wear a cheesehead hat...literally a giant plastic hunk of cheese. Is that right, though? Also the Packers are a kind of community share type of thing. And also our dream of having Flann and Mattista over for drinks have been dashed by football. Oh, and I used to be a big Vikings fan when Bud Grant ran the Vikings. That was forty years ago. Are the Packers playing today? Maybe I should look at them. I used to love football. It's so nice and cold here today...

Have fun with football! Hope your teams win ;-)
Tebow was an impressive QB with the Gators, and it amused me he ended up with the Broncos - figured he must just *really* like the Orange & Blue color scheme.
Joke for the day: A Tim Tebow joke...
Tom Brady, after living a full life, passed on...
When he got to Heaven, God was showing him around. They came up to a modest little house, with a faded Patriots flag in the window.
"This is your house for all of eternity. It is very special, as not everyone here gets their own house"...
Feeling very special, Tom Brady walked up to the house. Just as he got to the front porch, he noticed a house next door - a three story mansion with an orange and blue sidewalk and driveway, a 50 foot flagpole with a Broncos flag furling in the wind, a swimming pool in the shape of a horse, a Broncos logo in every window and a Tebow jersey on the front door...
"I don't want to sound ungrateful, God, but I was an All Pro QB, won three Super Bowls and went to the Hall of Fame. Why does Tim Tebow get a better house than me?"...
Chuckling, God replied, "Tom, that's not Tim Tebow's house-that's mine"...

oh, Flannista, bummer about the fleas. Remember boric acid powder for the floorboards, etc. Good luck with the flea baths.

Not a bad mom, Flann. Just that time of year. Sorry you have to put up with the inconvenience. Hope dear Scout & Jem are comfy and itchless by the end of the day.

This has nothing to do with the playoffs. But since we're still almost 6 hours away from the first game, let me hijack with this little video. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I LOVE THAT VIDEO, treesta.
Just love it. Thanks for posting the link.

In an absolute first in my life as a caretaker for felines, both Jem and Scout took their pills to kill the fleas with a pill pocket. Unbelievable. Just like that. No coaxing, no wrapping them burrito-like. Also was able to apply Advantage or whatever to keep the damn things from coming back.
Now back to the vacuuming and bedclothes washing.

noway -- all the teams you picked are going to lose. I take your bet and will be happy to take all 4 six-packs when the games are over. Thanks, pardner.

frida -- thanks for the almost-invite. For broads who didn't have much going on for the last couple of months, the Sassistas! seem to have a lot going on the next few weeks, not the least of which is enjoying all the beer Flann is going to win because noway is going to lose.

Sassistas, while I think you are right, I hope you are wrong on all counts. The hardest one is the Broncos. I think I dislike the Patriots more than the Broncos. I would most like to see the Giants or 49ers win it all with good defense!
Being a Steelers fan, I really don't like the Ravens, but they do have defense at least.

Alright, I know I'm spending WAY too much time on the internet this morning, but someone in the Toronto Zoo's PR department is ingenious. Their commercials are great:

babysis -- Matissta is pulling for her beloved Giants -- so keep that in mind. I shouldn't have labeled these the "Sassistas! picks".
I don't like Texas, period, so I never pull for ANY teams from Texas.
The Ravens are the favorite team of the Onesy-Palooza mom and the Patriots are the favorite team of the Onesy-Palooza dad. Their baby girl was baptized just last week, so it would be a sacrilege to cheer on the teams their teams are opposing.

treesta -- I love the tagline for the polar bears: "Be sure to see them."
Genius!
Thanks for posting the links.

In the category of, "I can't make up this sh!t" -- the spin cycle on the new washing machine I bought Matissta for the holidays is not working.
Sigh.
Kernel panics. Fleas. Broken washing machines.
What does this mean? We're only two weeks into the New Year.

Oh -- and my "Check Engine" light keeps going off and on in my car.
Posted by: Flannista | January 14, 2012 at 02:39 PM
I'm picking the 49ers and the Giants; the other two I agree with Flann. treesta's right, it depends on what Giants' team shows up.
noway, I'd love to share those beers with you regardless of who wins.
And yes, probably the best weekend in football.
