Well, good mornin' to 'ya, dear Flann. Those are indeed some comfortable looking shoes. In fact, when they were under your tree, they were SO comfortable looking that I couldn't help but reach down to touch them, and they are indeed some comfortable feeling shoes.
I will say that about the age of 45 I had quite an awakening in my life, and since that time, with every step I take I try to be as comfortable in my own skin as your feet look in those shoes. Not quite there yet, but getting closer with each passing mile.

I would agree that being comfortable in your own skin is as important as one's favorite pair of shoes; in fact, way more important.
I first read this quote nearly 20 years ago -- in a book by the founder of one of the world's largest advertising companies on Madison Avenue. The quote stuck out because it didn't seem like it would be in a book on advertising/marketing. I use it in my creativity and writing workshops (because writing and being creative is NEVER comfortable). Also, I don't believe we were put on this earth to be comfortable. I came across it last week when I was putting together the lesson plan for your First Graders. I was wearing the slippers in this post -- the ones noway gave me for the holidays. Matiss got a pair just like them except they are black.

This post is also our way of connecting with PEACEsista and nowayasista before they head out on their African safari tomorrow.
Pack comfortable shoes.

Being comfortable in your own skin may be way more important than being comfortable in one's shoes, but for most of my life, I was anything but. In fact, in so many ways I was alien to myself.
Part of the reason that trees are so important to me is that I began to reacquaint myself to the me I kept so hidden was by walking and sitting, on a daily basis, out in the woods. The Standing Ones showed the way.
Nothing like a grand adventure to reconnect, to oneself, to each other, to the world. PEACE & noway, stay safe - and enjoy every moment!!

Good quote and hey, great teepee boots. Glad you enjoy them. We are rarin' to go. One last day to wrap up things at work and then on a trip neither one of us planned, but like so much in life, just comes your way. Kind of like new friends. Just come your way if you keep the door open.

Wow, a safari!
Flann, I think I like these shoes better than the white ones but what's with the pants?
I saw a show called Wonder Pets and I knew, with all my heart, that Flann will be writing for kid's tv. Some of it is genius-like...
Treesta, know what you mean about trees...today I am taking paintings to a gallery...in the rain. Don't like it...but...comfort is my goal after 8 at night or when I feel like a baby.

I know, I know, frida -- I just can't seem to pull it together. I get the shoes right but then blow it with the pants.
In this photo, I'm wearing one of my two pair of "fat pants" -- comfortable pants. They have pockets and everything. I'll let Matissta describe to you my Emily Dickinson t-shirt.
Hope you have enough plastic sheeting.

PEACE and Noway: Have a great time. So much to see. I have done a lot of reading of South African writers lately. Mostly about people not animals though. Please post some pictures when you get back.
Shoes: I hate them
Posted by: Justista | January 17, 2012 at 11:52 AM
Flann: I don't hate your shoes. I hate all shoes.
Posted by: Justista | January 17, 2012 at 11:52 AM
I think there is much truth to this quote, especially when it comes to creativity and ideas. You should always push yourself in those areas. I know I get lazy about it sometimes. But when I do push myself, I find I'm personally more satisfied and come up with better results.
It's always good to have a comfortable pair of shoes or clothing to settle into, especially when lounging around the house. And as Flann explained, that's why she wears those pants.
Just, you should try these shoes. It's like walking bare foot. Soooo comfortable.
Posted by: Matissta | January 17, 2012 at 12:25 PM
I with I could wear these slippers when I travel. Heck, I just might.
Justista -- I hate to wear shoes. And I guess you can tell from the photos that I hate to wear clothes, too. Nothing ever really matches. I wake up, open a drawer and if a turtleneck or t-shirt is clean or comfortable, I throw it on with a pair of fat pants and I am good to go.
noway hit one out of the park with these deer skin slippers, I gotta say.

The only shoes I like are my Birkenstocks. I wear them every day. I think it would be better for my career if I had more grown-up footwear, but there you have it. I'm CEO of my own company but it doesn't pay very well. Nothing, in fact. Its only costing me money.
Posted by: Westsista | January 17, 2012 at 07:18 PM
Having said that, I still love my own company. I remain hopeful that at some point the money flow will reverse direction.

Thanks for the well-wishes. Our bags are packed and we're ready to go. I can hardly wait to see the wild animals in their natural habitat in Tanzania ... elephants, lions and giraffes to name a few!
No cell phones or computers on this trip ... so, we'll sass you later ... after we return on the 30th.

Good morning, everyone. PEACE & noway, if you haven't left yet, stay safe and enjoy a wonderful adventure in Africa.
The part came in for my heat pump, so I'll be coming home early today to wait for them to get it totally fixed. I have a report to finish writing, and test data to crunch in preparation for meetings next week, so that will keep me busy while I'm waiting.
Meanwhile, I'll head into work for a few hours to get the day started. Hope everyone enjoys your day!
Posted by: treesta | January 18, 2012 at 05:42 AM
PEACE -- I'm envious that you'll be away from cell phones and computers until the end of the month. Was on the phone the other day with Sista C who shared that she is taking a break from technology. I think in some ways, I am, too.
Hey treesta -- glad your heat pump part came in. Matissta's washer repair person is coming tomorrow. The catties did well at their vet exams yesterday . . . no more fleas. All is calm.
For the moment.

Perhaps the Sassistas! ought to be participating in today's Blackout, like Wikipedia, and MoveOn, etc. Matissta told me about this late yesterday. Click on Wiki, for example, and this is what comes up:

Westsista -- I rarely wear anything other than work-out shoes when I consult. I used to wear Ferragamos low heels, but not even that anymore. Not comfortable if I have to be on my feet all day. If Birkenstocks work for you, still with them.
Posted by: Flannista | January 18, 2012 at 05:56 AM
I wear New Balance running shoes at work. I am definitely on my feet all day, and can't even imagine being in real shoes. I am thinking about getting in the catalog for the company that made Flann's shoes. They have some beautiful deerskin shoes that would be a step up in terms of professional look and flights of steps up in terms of classy looks. Once I get my taxes done and get my refund that will be my gift to myself.

Check out the Google black out, too.

Jambo
Off to Africa. Family on 4 continents this January. If lion eats me, peace will get good photos. How cool would that be?
Posted by: Nowayasista | January 18, 2012 at 08:17 AM
Way cool, pardner.
We'll miss you and PEACE.
Travel blessings.

More about the Blackout. Congress is trying to fight piracy and counterfeiting through SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP act). The music and film industry strong support this and are lobbying heavily. However, this would result in censorship because the US government would be permitted to shutdown entire sites. Similar to what China does.
The White House is backing away from this as are may Congress members because of the backlash. From the Guardian,
"Over the weekend the Obama administration came out against key components of Sopa, effectively killing the bill in its current form. But its main sponsors are fighting to get it back on the table and Pipa is up for a vote in the Senate on January 24."
They're referring as a battle between old (Hollywood) and new (Silicon Valley) media.

Thanks for the information about the Blackout, Matissta. Westsista did something very cool on her Facebook page about it. Rock on, West.
