Here is a link to a Washington Post feature that reviews each of the films nominated for Best Picture in 90 seconds:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/argo-in-90-seconds/2013/02/22/fc992f18-7d25-11e2-a044-676856536b40_video.html?hpid=z2
I tend to agree with these reviews. For example, the Post doesn't think "Argo" has the "heft" or the "gravitas" to win Best Picture. I completely agree. Sista C described it as a good "Made-for-TV" movie. That's fairly accurate.

I think it's quite possible that Emmanuelle Riva could win "Best Actress", though I didn't see the film.
The Sassistas! were not able to see, "Armour", "Django Unchained," "Life of Pi" or "Les Miserables". I believe treesta may have seen all of the nominated films.

I loved, loved, loved, "Zero Dark Thirty," despite how it messes with the truth. So does "Argo", for that matter. The biggest Oscar slight in my opinion is not Ben Affleck not being nominated for Best Director, but Kathryn Bigelow not being nominated for Best Director. She is masterful at camera angles, editing, etc. Just masterful.

Good morning, Flann. This is the closest I've ever come to seeing all the nominated best picture films. I did not make it to Argo or Amour. After watching Djengo Unchained, I believe Christoph Waltz should get best supporting actor, though I doubt he will. His character carried the entire movie.

If they had an award for best acting ensemble, Lincoln would get it hands down. The joint performances of Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Fields was riveting.

Yeah, 'Argo' was pretty lightweight and even predictable. The most ridiculous shot? The bad guys chasing the jet as it picks up speed, engines at high torgue down the jetway, wheels slowly clearing the ground. Strictly 'movie tension 101'. Dunno why Alan Arkin was even nominated, for his blustering, one-dimensional character.
To me, it's Lincoln and Zero Dark-Thirty all the way.

I agree with you, Sista C, although I didn't see Beasts of the Southern Wild (oops, that's three I didn't see!), so I can't comment on that one. All of the predictions in the papers are saying Argo will take it, though. We'll have to see.

Here are HuffingtonPost's picks, btw:

I did not see Amour, Django, or Pi. Of those I saw, I pick Lincoln for the Oscar, plus Lewis and Fields for wins in their categories.
If it couldn't be Lincoln to win, I would choose the dark horse, Beasts of the Southern Wild. That movie touched me with its mixture of poverty, social degradation, fantasy and hope. In spite of the fantasy, it felt more real to me than the action/adventure entries for Best Picture. I would rather see Q. Wallis win than Jessica Chastain ... she's not likely to win, but her performance touched my heart in a way that Chastain's did not.
Though I loved Les Mis, I would not choose Hathaway for the win ... not by a long shot.
I heard last night that the Oscars begin at 7:00 Eastern and 4:00 Pacific time ... which means at 5:00 my time ... can that be? It seems way to early.

Just looked at the Huffington Post link.
Unfreakin' believable to me that "Argo" has a very good chance of winning. Excellent description of the cheesy ending, Sista C. Good argument for Wallis winning over Chastain, PEACEsista.

It was one month ago this afternoon that Momista left this sweet world. Kind of appropriate that the Oscars are tonight.

This category doesn't appear in this post, but for Production Design, I would pick "Anna Karenina" to win over "Lincoln", but "Lincoln" will win. Anyone see "Anna Karenina"? The art and production design were jaw-dropping.

Daniel Day Lewis and his wife always dress really goofy for these awards shows. Can't wait to dish about what they'll be wearing.

Another Oscar slap in the face:
John Goodman wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor for "Flight". You have to see it to see what I mean. He was amazing.

treesta, I heard Christoph Waltz's performance was very strong and should win. Also, I heard that Leonardo DiCaprio should have been nominated for his performance.
Here's my theory about Argo. It seems that the younger generations were "bored" by Lincoln. My friend's daughter who is an actress thought it was so overrated and said that none of her friends enjoyed it. Argo seems to appeal to those who don't have the attention span for details.
She also liked Les Mis very much. Which surprised her because she doesn't like musicals but said it blew her away.
I also heard of a voter who didn't vote on performances but whether or not the people nominated were nice, especially to him. So with voting like how can we predict?

Off topic: Flann, what color/s did you decide on for your hair?
Posted by: PEACEsista | February 24, 2013 at 03:36 PM
Ruby and purple, and it looks awesome if you ask me.

The Sassistas! here at Flann's house watching the red carpet action on E! and the TV Guide station.
Seth McFarlane's father (Seth is the host of the Oscars tonight) is wearing a kilt.
This afternoon, while doing laundry at Matissta's, we watched last summer's movie, "The Amazing Spider Man." We both really liked it; even got a bit weepy in places. It was so much better than the summer mega-hit, "The Avengers".

I am still working with my anger at Zero but haven't been able to overcome it.
You're right, Flann. John Goodman in Flight was fantastic.
Lincoln is my favorite all around, including Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field.
Didn't see Zero, Amour, Les Mis or silver Linings

Gruff is going upstairs while I drink Jack, make crab cakes and watch the Oscars. He will come down when the crab cakes (from fresh crab) are done.

Thanks, Justista, for supporting me for the snub for Best Supporting Actor. I LOVED Goodman's performance.
Matiss and I wish we were with you, the Jack and crab cakes.

B&B, we know you're rooting for Hugh Jackman...

My favorite exchange of the evening.
Interviewer: Q (actress from "Beasts of the Southern Wild") what time is your normal bedtime?
Q's mother responds: 9:30/10.
Flann's response: That's later than me! I'm usually in bed by 8:30/9!
