SNOWQUESTER!
How bad will it get?! Will we lose power?!
Stay tuned for updates!

Right now, it's rainquester here by the bay.

The following was posted by the National Weather Service at 5:40 a.m. Can anyone make sense of it?:
*****
THE TRANSITION BETWEEN PHASES OF THIS INTENSE AND IMPACTFUL INCOMING SNOWSTORM IS FULLY UNDERWAY. THE INITIAL SFC LOW THAT DROPPED DOWNFROM THE NRN PLAINS INTO THE UPPER MIDWEST IS ABOUT TO BE PHASED-OUT. THE NEWER AND STRONGER LOW CURRENTLY OVER THE RALEIGH NC AREA WILL CREATE A SNOWY AND HAZARDOUS WEDNESDAY FOR MUCH OF THEMID-ATLC. THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS WILL BE THE CRITICAL TRANSITION PERIOD AS THIS LOW INTENSIFIES AND ROTATES DUE NE TOWARD THE LOWER TIP OF THE DELMARVA PENINSULA AND DEVELOPS HEAVY SNOW BAND ACROSS THE NWRN QUADRANT OF THE LOW DURING THE DAYTIME HRS

Emily has to go to work and is actually DRIVING INTO THE CITY.
Posted by: Flannista | March 06, 2013 at 06:48 AM
treesta -- it's pretty slippery here. Definitely sleet . . . for now, anyway.
Posted by: Flannista | March 06, 2013 at 06:49 AM
I was out walking Huck & it was fairly slippery. Combination of snow & rain. We're expected to receive snow later on in the day. Where BnBsista lives, they've already received 7 inches.

In the short time since I made my comment, the snow/rain has changed to just snow.
There are already power outages in Virginia. It's wet, heavy snow, so it's pulling down the electrical lines. All the "trimming" of trees doesn't help in this case.

I missed you, Flannista. Decided to swoop in one more time.
Xoxo

Call me determined or stupid, but I just got back from trudging through heavy sleet to work out at the Fitness Center. Did 4.5 miles and burned 753 calories. I hadn't done any cardio since a week ago Monday, and I was sick of not moving. Basically, I was sick of being sick.
While at about mile 4, though, it occurred to me that I may be doing a lot of snow shoveling later on. It's not supposed to get really bad until noon today and then be awful until midnight.
Is that right, White?
Posted by: Flannista | March 06, 2013 at 09:03 AM
That's the plan, Flannista. I'll be all over you like an angry ferret this evening, but you've seen worse before. You're a scrappy broad, out in the sleet this morning.

Now it's raining here but we got a lot of heavy flakes. I love it. The National Weather Report was filed by a robot who is still learning English! I was enthralled by the syntax and lack of meaning. Thanks for the update.
Love you Flann and Mattista and don't shovel too much. I HOPE we keep our electricity.
Posted by: frida | March 06, 2013 at 09:24 AM
Glad you still have power, frida.
Just got off the phone with my father who was checking on me. He wanted me to make certain that I had enough food and had charged up my phone. You gotta love dads like that.
Hey White: what I'm seeing out my window is still kinda puny, compared to the havoc you've unleashing in the central states.
Have you lost your zip? Your drive? Your la-de-da?
Are you feeling un-poop-ular?
Posted by: Flannista | March 06, 2013 at 09:39 AM
Yeah, I hope we keep our electricity also. I've been cranking up the heat just in case.
Also, boiled some water and stored it in a thermos so I can at least have a cup hot tea.
Huck is not phased at all. Goes from the sleeping to looking out the window. Just another day for him.

Looking forward to photo updates. I hope you all keep power and have minimal hassles from the snowquester.
Posted by: babysis | March 06, 2013 at 10:03 AM
Still nothin' but rain here. The wind, however, is steadily picking up.
Posted by: treesta | March 06, 2013 at 10:05 AM
Made record time driving to work today, 23 minutes! I love the irony. It's great when the Federal workers and the school systems are off the roads. I plan to get ahead of the fast falling stuff early this afternoon though. I must make one quick stop because I'm out of sweet vermouth. And I may be graced by a visit from Flann and Matiss later and I simply cannot be out of sweet vermouth.
Posted by: Emily | March 06, 2013 at 10:17 AM
I hope that you get enough to build us a snowsista!
Posted by: PEACEsista | March 06, 2013 at 10:19 AM
PEACE, at this point, the snowsista is just a pail of ice water. It snowed for a bit, but now it's back to rain. The wind is picking up a bit, though.
Emily, for heaven's sake, get your butt back on home and don't make that silly stop. We have plenty of sweet vermouth.

Jim Cantore made a special trip to be in Washington for this snowstorm. He's bored.
Posted by: treesta | March 06, 2013 at 10:42 AM
I'm going out for a nice cup of latte for me and a cup of hot chocolate for the grandkid.

Hey WHITE -- did Happy Hour already start for you? Check out the latest weather report:
*****
The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang — which initially predicted five to 10 inches of snow inside the Capital Beltway — revised its prediction at 10 a.m. to say that total snowfall could amount to no more than “a few sloppy inches”.
*****
That's the best you can do? "A few sloppy inches"?

UPDATED PHOTOS, EVERYONE! COMPARE THESE IMAGES TO THE IMAGES FEATURED IN THIS POST THAT WERE TAKEN SIX HOURS AGO. SEEMS TO ME THAT WE HAVE LESS SNOW, NOT MORE!:

Hey, White -- you hanging your head in shame?
Posted by: Flannista | March 06, 2013 at 12:03 PM
Flann, you should be happy. I know I am.
It's like a free day off especially without the shoveling.
